9:00 AM - 12:00 PM    Chess, Shining Knights, Summer Camp - Session 4 - AM Only
Spend a week playing and learning about chess from the Shining Knights chess coaches!    Our coaches are highly-rated professional chess instructors who have taught tens of thousands of children to play.  Many have won state and national championships. Campers are assigned to groups by skill level, and classes are tailored to appeal to total beginners through experienced and highly-rated tournament players.   Each camper receives a T-shirt and a tournament-style chess set.  Activities include learning openings, tactics and endgames, studying master games, playing games against fellow students and analyzing the students' games.   Campers will take short breaks for snacks and fresh air every hour and full-day campers have lunch and recess from Noon – 12:30pm.

Mission — “We aim to spark the imagination and curiosity of children everywhere by providing them with fun, entertaining and educational activities that instill a clear understanding of what science is really about and how it affects the world around them.”August 10 – 14NASA: Journey to Outer Space        Take a voyage of discovery into the atmosphere and beyond as we explore planets, moons, and other space phenomena. Create a comet and build your own Mad Science rocket and participate in a real NASA style rocket launch!  Campers will take home additional NASA activities to complete at home!  Mad Science is the ONLY organization licensed by NASA to use these activities for Summer Camps!Mad Machines & Jr Engineers         Whether you enjoy building or destroying structures, you’ll love this camp! Work with simple machines such as pulleys, wedges, screws, and levers, to build your own catapults! Experiment with tessellation with triangles and cubes.  Exercise your ability to work with others while constructing a geodesic dome big enough for everyone to fit inside! Let the building begin!August 24 – 28Super Slimy Smokey Science        Dive into a variety of scientific fields as you help solve a mystery, stretch silly putty and slime, copper-plate nickels, tinker with circuits, and investigate optical illusions. Become captivated by lasers, dry ice, and hair-raising experiments! You will love what happens when you mix science and fun!Underground Explorers         From Dinosaurs to Ancient Civilizations! Learn about archeology and the techniques scientists use to excavate long lost cities. Discover ancient civilizations and the tools and artifacts they used in everyday life. Study bone fragments, pottery shards, amber deposits, and fossils to understand what they can tell us about history. Make incredible projects to take home, like an amber time capsule and antique coins from around the world!

In this half-day camp, experienced Dungeon Masters will guide kids through character creation, followed by several sessions of role playing in an adventure. Play will concentrate on the basics, so no experience is necessary, but veteran players will also have a blast! All materials will be provided, including dice, character sheets, reference books, and miniature figurines. At the end of the camp, the kids are welcome to keep their dice and figurines. The company offers an expansive range of in-school and after-school residencies, school holiday break programming, field trips, and summer programs for children ages 2-13. Learn how to play chess from a Shining Knights chess coach!  Our coaches are professional instructors and have taught thousands of children to play chess.   Class time is evenly split between lesson and play.  Lessons range from learning the rules to advanced tournament strategies. Play time is structured to pair each student against an opponent of similar skill. All chess supplies provided.

Think creatively while being introduced to the day-to-day experience of a veterinarian. Have fun as you learn about different types of veterinarians!Future Surgeons (Winter Break, Dec 28 - January 1)Paging all future surgeons. Get ready to scrub in! This is a great opportunity to role play as a surgeon while learning the importance of surgery, different types of surgeries, how surgeons prepare for procedures, and the tools used during surgery. Hands-on activities like using safe medical instruments and dressing up in surgical attire help make the learning experience more interactive. The class also emphasizes the importance of safety, hygiene, and taking care of one's health to promote a positive understanding of medical care among children.
